GRUHAK
Facts and pointers for promoting Gruhak

This text should help the journalists and PR staff in writing the album reviews and press articles about the Gruhak rock band.
Gruhak should be easy to promote due to the remarkable musical talents of the band.
Please note that most of the quoted comments about the band’s music are by other musicians and music industry professionals.

1.. Gruhak is not a cover or a tribute band. They recorded the cover videos to gain the attention and free promotion on Youtube !

2.. They are unique among the new young bands. Their moto is simple: The music in itself should be enough ! No posing, no short lived novelties, no overproduction, no style attitude, no arty-farty-freak-show videos, no hype, just pure music !

3.. In the local Croatian slang the word “gruhak” means a very loud person.

4.. Gruhak is a young band playing Classic Rock, the music that appeals to older generations. They want to bring Classic Rock back, to the young audiences and into the mainstream of current musical genres.

5.. They gained an ecstatic audience on the web, by the word of mouth, and exclusively due to the quality of their performance. Although the ‘total view count’ is low due to the lack of promotion, ’the engagement per view count’ and ‘the ratio of positive comments’ is many times higher for Gruhak than for any other rock act on the web.

6.. Gruhak have developed their own unique sound that could not be more basic. You hear exactly what you see on the stage and nothing more, there are no gimmicks !!
All Gruhak video and audio material, including their first album is DIY engineered and produced.

7.. Gruhak’s singer Boris is a true force of nature. He sings Plant, Gilmore, Morrison, Gallagher, Daltrey, Cocker covers so close to the original that some puzzled Youtubers have even accused him of auto-tuning and lip-syncing over the original songs. See: Youtube Comments.

8.. The band of musicians needs that extra ingredient that is difficult to define, but you know that when you do have it, the whole is more then the sum of the individuals. Gruhak have been lucky in that respect, the “chemistry” of the band is superb, because they came into being spontaneously, out of the enthusiasm for music.

9.. Recently Gruhak have recorded their first album ‘Make A Stand’ The music and lyrics were written by Ivan and Boris and it was arranged and produced by the band themselves. This original material ranges from easy and refined acoustic numbers through modern blues rock to fast rock n roll. The arrangements have dramatic progression and dynamic complexity in the style of the great classic rock music of the late sixties and early seventies.

10.. Gruhak have played some 400 gigs in Eastern Europe. Their first album is out on CD-Babay and on iTunes.
If the album sells well, they are planning to come and play in Western Europe and USA.

WHAT IS CLASSIC ROCK?

Why have Gruhak chosen that old-fashioned genre?

There is a lot of crossover when we talk about rock music sub-genres. However, historically, the primary Classic Rock period spans from mid 60’s to mid 70’s. It fits in roughly between Rock‘n’Roll and Punk. In its basic musical form, it is a sophisticated fusion of Jazz, Rock’n’Roll and Blues. During that period the musicians were rated by mastery of their instrument.
To play in a Classic Rock band you have to be a naturally gifted musician and a team player. You have to have an innate feel for your fellow players and always anticipate what they will do next, as there is a lot of free-form and improvisation going on, but always within a tight rhythmic and dynamic structure.
If we look at the present day Classic Rock scene, most bands that are active are still the original or derivatives of the old 60’s and 70’s bands.
The young rock bands of today usually play some glorified version of Punk, Metal or Grunge, where the lifestyle and attitude is more important than musicianship.
While growing up in Croatia, Gruhak were not a part of the western youth lifestyles and trends. When as young musicians they searched for influences from the west, the quality of musicianship was all that was important. It was obvious to them that the Classic Rock period, where the talent reigned supreme, was the one that challenged them the most. Hendrix, Clapton, Plant, Page, Gilmore, became their idols, and they wanted to pay a tribute. That is how they started playing covers in the local clubs, without any notion that they might one day become professional and write their own material.
It was the advent of Youtube that changed their fate. They uploaded some 20 videos of The Greatest Classic Rock Songs and the rest as they say is history.
